Project Background and Challenges
- The production process for the cutting head of a roadheader is relatively lengthy.
- The welding of the tooth‑holder assembly involves as many as 76 components, each with six degrees of freedom, making trajectory planning particularly challenging.
- After welding, high positioning accuracy is required: angular accuracy of 0.1° in three axes and dimensional accuracy of 0.5 mm in three coordinates.
- Multi-layer, multi-pass welding process;

- Intelligent heating furnace system (with process parameter settings and data logging);
- Intelligent assembly and positioning system with a full‑welding robot station (3D vision‑guided positioning and parametric programming, preheating before welding);
- 6-ton, 3-axis lifting L-type welding positioner;
- 3D scanning intelligent inspection workstation;
- MES system;
- Case File: Intelligent Welding Line for the Cutting Head of Shanxi Tiandi Coal Machinery;
Project Implementation Status
- The project has been delivered. As China’s first intelligent welding line for cutting heads, it went into production at the end of 2021 and is currently undergoing Phase II.
