Intelligent Production Line for Roadheader Cutting Heads in the Coal-Mining Machinery Industry

Project Background and Challenges
- The production process for the cutting head of a roadheader is relatively lengthy.
- The welding of the gear seat assembly involves as many as 76 components, each with six degrees of freedom, making trajectory planning for the welds extremely challenging.
- After welding, high positioning accuracy is required: angular accuracy of 0.1° in three axes and dimensional accuracy of 0.5 mm in three coordinates.
- Multi-layer, multi-pass welding process;

- Intelligent heating furnace system (with process parameter setting and recording);
- Intelligent robotic station for assembly alignment and full-penetration welding (3D vision-guided positioning and parametric programming, pre-weld heating);
- 6-ton, 3-axis lifting L-shaped welding positioner;
- 3D scanning intelligent inspection workstation;
- MES system;

Project Implementation Status
- The project has been delivered and, as China’s first intelligent welding line for cutting heads, was commissioned at the end of 2021. Currently, Phase II of the project is underway.
